Bahia Wetland Restoration
The Bahia property was once a tidal wetland that was drained and slated for a residential community. Local activists fought back development proposals for thirty years, ultimately purchasing the 140-acre site. In October 2009, they breached a barrier levee and reconnected the dessicated wetland to the tidal waters of the bay. It had originally been drained approximately eighty years earlier.
