Scott Leslie’s series of field guides to North American birds are bar none an excellent contribution to the genre. Think of Peterson’s, Stokes and Siblings combined into one. In each book, Woodland Birds, Wetland Birds and Sea & Coastal Birds, the reader gets key identification information through Leslie’s extraordinary photographs. His sections on individual species include food, habitat, behavior, family life and conservation concerns. I love his writing style. Leslie deeply respects the wide range of species he features and cares about their future. The books fit easily into a sachel or backpack. Good reading, excellent presentation, impeccably researched, these books have become my favourite field guides in the field or at home.
